New brunch concept at TAK - BonKaiten

Bonkaiten is an idea that we at TAK Stockholm have dreamt up in our Izakaya. Being our smaller and more rowdy venue on the 14th floor, the Izakaya is the perfect setting for Bonkaiten. Here, freshly prepared dishes are carried out on trays by the waiters and presented by the table. Simply pick a dish if it looks enticing, or wait for the next tray of treats. You choose entirely how much to eat and when to stop. Love tasting a little bit of everything? Bonkaiten is made specifically for you.

Once you start eating, it can be hard to stop—we know! Therefore, the dishes are served on plates in different colors, making it easy to see how much they cost and keeping track of the tab.

The menu at TAK Bonkaiten is constantly changing to offer new and exciting dishes. This means we don’t have a fixed menu. However, every menu follows our Nordic-Japanese philosophy. The Bonkaiten brunch features everything from classic sushi to our newest favorite-in-the-making: Chicken Karaage and Waffle

INSPIRED BY THE CLASSICS

The name Bonkaiten carries a significant meaning. BonBon was a cult classic on the Stockholm restaurant scene of the 2010s. Waiters in the restaurant carried trays with dishes around the room, presenting them at each table. You chose whether you wanted to pick up a dish, or wait for the next tray. For each dish picked, the waiter put a marble in a bowl on the table. At the end of the dinner, the marbles were simply tallied up, resulting in a total bill for the whole party.

With our Nordic-Japanese philosophy, we only saw it fit to honor this piece of Stockholm history by combining it with a similar, Japanese concept: Kaiten-zushi. Meaning “rotating sushi” in Japanese, kaiten-zushi is more commonly known as conveyor belt sushi. Plates serving sushi are placed on a rotating conveyor belt that winds through a restaurant, and the final bill is based on the number and type of plates that each diner has acquired.

Mixing these two ideas to create something uniquely TAK, we’ve put all the fun and excitement of BonBon and Kaiten-zushi into our own version: Bonkaiten. Come and try it for yourself!
